Hi All--

We are making the difficult and heartbreaking decision to find a new home for our sweet dog, May.  If anyone comes to mind based on the description below, please send them our way.  If we don't find a good fit in the next two weeks through our networks, we will work with a local rescue agency to rehome her.

May is a roughly 3 year old german shepherd mix (50 lbs) who was found running on the side of the road with her sister in Mississippi in 2022.  We know nothing more about the first year of her life.  When we first met her she was friendly and affectionate.  Upon getting her home we discovered that she had a timid streak, and seemed new to inside life.  She is a lover!  Wants to cuddle, play, and seeks affection from most people.  However, she can be randomly startled or over-excited by some people (mail deliveries), sometimes men with hats, glasses, or big beards.  She is highly trainable and I think this could be worked with.  May is an athlete and amazing companion on runs, long walks or hikes, or mountain bike rides, also does great in boats and paddle boards.  She does not run away (maybe short distances, but always comes back) and has good recall.  She is very smart and learns fast.

We are not able to meet May's needs with the arrival of our new baby.  She simply needs a lot of attention that we can't give her, plus she has become overly attached to Megan since she had the baby (she's stopped going out to pee on her own and won't go on walks with Nick).  She is uncertain about little kids, but could be a good fit for older kids (10+).  The first two years we had May she seemed highly attuned to other dogs.  She is a very enthusiastic player, but listened when other dogs signaled for space.  Since the arrival of our baby we've seen this behavior shift towards more defensive and aggressive tendencies, which could also just be due to a lack of social time with other dogs or feeling pent up in general.

We think she would do especially well in a home with another dog.

Commands she knows: sit, stay, come, bed, down, shake, dance, up, off, has a settle mat that she will lay down on if you put it out, "okay" is release word, heel , go pee, lets go, go on, loves to chase balls and snow balls. She does not go on furniture unless on her settle mat.

We love her very much and hope we can find a great fit for the next chapter of her life.  Please be in touch with questions or ideas.

Thanks so much,

Megan + Nick
